Türkan Şoray rolls up sleeves for new film
Turkish actress and occasional filmmaker Türkan Şoray has begun filming on her newest directorial effort, a comedy-drama with a script by writer-director Onur Ünlü, the Cihan news agency has reported. Filming got under way last week in Menteşe, a town in the southwestern province of Muğla, Cihan reported. The movie, called “Eski Köye Yeni Adet,” which can be roughly translated as “new tricks for an old dog,” follows a comical sequence of events set into motion after a tavern opens in a small town.

İFSAK to unveil 55-year archive in new show
A comprehensive selection of works by some of Turkey's most renowned photographers -- living and deceased -- is set to go on display in an exhibition opening this weekend at the Beyoğlu-based İFSAK gallery, run by the İstanbul Association of Amateurs of Photography and Cinema. “İFSAK Arşivi Aralanıyor” (İFSAK Archive Unveiled) will open Saturday evening and continue until Sept. 28, presenting snapshots from the 55-year-old institution's archives by around 50 photographers, including Ara Güler, İzzet Keribar, Şahin Kaygun, Yıldız Moran and Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

Princes' Islands home to music, cinema from Austria
The Museum of the Princes' Islands in İstanbul is hosting “Adalarda Avusturya Günleri” (Austria Days on the Princes Islands) until Saturday, presenting four classical music concerts and one film screening. The July 21-25 series opened Tuesday evening with a concert by the Ludus Ensemble and will close with a performance by the Alliance Quartett Wien on Saturday evening in the garden of the Halki Seminary. “The Dark Valley,” a 2014 Austrian-German Western film, will be shown Thursday at the Büyükada Open-air Cinema.

Miley Cyrus to host MTV VMAs in August
Miley Cyrus is twerking back to the MTV Video Music Awards as the show's host. The 25-year-old singer-actress revealed on her social media accounts on Monday that she's helming the Aug. 30 ceremony, The Associated Press reported. Cyrus announced the gig by posting a photo of herself in an alien costume with sandwich boards that read “MTV won't let me perform” and “so I'm hosting this year's VMAs.” Cyrus won the video of the year trophy at last year's show.
