Cannes to get acquainted with Azerbaijani culture


The French city of Cannes will host the “Days of Azerbaijani Culture,” organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation from July 14 to 31.
The event will showcase a wide range of entertainment programs, presenting Azerbaijani art, culture, national music and jazz, from tradition to modernity, and will help French audiences to immerse themselves in Azerbaijani culture.
On the starting day, Azerbaijan will participate in the traditional “Festival of pyrotechnic art” (Festival d'Art Pyrotechnique), which the country has attended since 2013.
This year’s entry will be an innovative fireworks display by the Baku Fireworks Group.
The group will present its display accompanied by such Azerbaijani compositions as “Shabi Hijran” from “Leyli and Majnun” opera by Uzeyir Hajibeyli, “Thousand and One Nights” by Fikret Amirov, alongside the compositions including “Karabakh - the pearl of Azerbaijan,” “Seven Beauties” by Gara Garayev, “Gaytagi” by Tofig Guliyev, “Azerbaijan” by Muslim Magomayev, “Sen gelmez oldun” by Alekber Tagiyev, as well as folk songs “Azerbaydjan marali”, “Sari gelin,” and traditional Azerbaijani Mugham performed by the world-renowned musician Alim Gasimov.
Accordionist Anver Sadigov and his ensemble will complement the concert.
An exhibition titled “Azerbaijani carpets in art” will open at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on July 15.
The works of such well-known artists as Latif Kerimov, Vugar Muradov, Butunay Hagverdiyev, and Elchin Veliyev will be featured at the exhibition.
On the same day, audiences will witness an unforgettable evening of the Azerbaijani music, which will include samples of ethno-jazz music performed by famous Jazz pianist Emil Afrasiyab and his group, as well as another talented Azerbaijani masters of art.
To promote the event, Cannes and surrounding towns have been decorated with presentation banners and posters about Azerbaijan.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation oversees several projects in different countries that present Azerbaijan’s rich history and culture to the world. The Foundation, which usually conducts a series of activities in the regions of France, has been sponsoring the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Cannes for the past three years, which is visited by thousands of tourists every year.
